THE GOLDEN CIRCLE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) IN 2018.

The Information Technology (IT) is booming at a neck breaking pace. The drastic transition from one technology to the next, demands the market leaders to be updated with the latest trends. The golden circle of IT in 2018 clearly depicts the trends and most likely adopted technology in 2018, and probably in the future. Technology as we all know, is now, tomorrow, and the future. Its wide acceptability globally has a stunning value, placed on a global scale or compared with other sectors. This growth has an exponential projection due to its importance in our daily activities at home, work places, schools, churches and virtually everywhere.

The Information Technology world is a highly competitive one in nature, which has two major criteria to heart which are: Time and Value. And this criteria is always taken into consideration whenever an invention or innovation is set in motion. The questions professionals and experts in this field always ask themselves, are this “How quick can I provide a better solution? (Time)” and “Will it be widely accepted and adopted? (Value)”.

In other to be successful not just in the IT sector but in any sector of your economy, you must use those criteria to scale and guide your actions or implementations. Below are the golden circle members of the IT sector in 2018:

Software-as-a-service: One of the latest trends in the IT industry is software-as-a-service. The technology hosts software on a central cloud which can be accessed by other clients via web browsers. SaaS model potentially cuts down the cost involved in IT support by outsourcing the maintenance and support to the SaaS providers. The service is used as a common delivery model for business applications like virtualization, customer relationship management, DBMS software, Development software and many more.

AR and VR: We’ve already seen some major steps forward for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology in 2017. Oculus Rift was released, to positive reception, and thousands of VR apps and games followed. We also saw Pokémon Go, an AR game, explode with over 100 million downloads. The market is ready for AR and VR, and we’ve already got some early-stage devices and tech for these applications.

Cloud: Cloud services have already transformed the way IT used to work. Cloud uses a network of remote servers hosted on internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer. Computer resources such as storage and processor are being shared in this model.

Physical-Digital Integrations: Mobile devices have been slowly adding technology into our daily lives. It’s rare to see anyone without a smartphone at any given time, giving us access to practically infinite information in the real-world. We already have things like site-to-store purchasing, enabling online customers to buy and pick up products in a physical retail location, but the next level will be even further integrations between physical and digital realities.

IoT and Smart Home Tech: We’ve been hearing about the forthcoming revolution of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and resulting interconnectedness of smart home technology for years. So what’s the holdup? Why aren’t we all living in smart, connected homes by now? Part of the problem is too much competition, with not enough collaboration—there are tons of individual appliances and apps on the market, but few solutions to tie everything together into a single, seamless user experience. Now that bigger companies already well-versed in uniform user experiences (like Google, Amazon, and Apple) are getting involved, we expect we’ll see some major advancements on this front in the coming year.
